Hello, I’m Oksana. Thank you for visiting my website.

I work from a psychodynamic/psychoanalytic perspective, helping people understand how their current feelings and behaviours may be shaped by past experiences and unconscious processes. This approach can lead to meaningful and lasting change, not only alleviating symptoms but also fostering a healthier emotional life.

Why Psychodynamic Counselling

Psychodynamic counselling is deeply rooted in the theories of Sigmund Freud, although it has since evolved with contributions from other thinkers.

Psychodynamic counselling offers a space to explore the deeper layers of your emotional life. It’s based on the idea that our early experiences, especially in childhood, shape how we feel, relate, and respond in the present. Sometimes, patterns from the past continue quietly beneath the surface, influencing how we see ourselves and others without us even realising.

A helpful way to picture this is the iceberg metaphor: what we are aware of- our thoughts, feelings, and actions - is just the tip. Most of what drives us lies below the surface, out of sight. These hidden parts of the mind can shape our behaviour, emotions, and relationships in powerful ways. In therapy, we gently bring these hidden patterns into awareness. This can help you understand long-standing struggles, make sense of confusing feelings, and begin to shift what no longer serves you.

What might we explore together?

  • How past relationships affect your current ones.

  • Ways you protect yourself emotionally and how these might limit you.

  • Feelings that seem out of place, overwhelming, or hard to name.

  • A sense of being “stuck” or disconnected from yourself.

Psychodynamic counselling can support you with:

  • Anxiety or low mood

  • Depression

  • Relationship challenges

  • Grief, trauma, or loss

  • Identity questions or low self-esteem

  • Addictions

  • A general sense of emotional unease.

You don’t need a diagnosis to benefit. Many people come simply because they want to understand themselves more deeply, find meaning, or grow emotionally.

If you are drawn to the idea that our inner world holds stories worth listening to and that healing can come from insight and connection, psychodynamic counselling can offer you a thoughtful and transformative path.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens in the first session?

The first session is a chance for us to begin exploring what’s troubling you ( or your child or teenager), and to get a sense of whether my approach feels right. You are welcome to ask questions, and there is no pressure to commit.

Do you offer short-term or long-term counselling?

I offer both short-term and long-term work, depending on your needs and what feels most helpful. We can discuss this together as things unfold.

How often are sessions?

Sessions are held weekly and last for 50 minutes. Consistency is vital in psychodynamic work, and weekly sessions help build a safe and steady space or reflection.

Do you work with children and young people?

Yes. I have specialist training in psychodynamic counselling for children and adolescents, and I also work therapeutically with parents. I offer a calm, confidential space where emotional difficulties can be explored with care.

How much do sessions cost?

Fees range from £55 to £65 depending on individual circumstances. Payment is made by bank transfer. I offer a free phone consultation before we begin.

Is everything confidential?

Yes. What you share in counselling is treated with respect and confidentiality. There are a few legal and safeguarding exceptions, which I will explain clearly at the start.

Do you offer online sessions?

Yes. I offer both in-person sessions in Wells, Somerset, and online sessions via a secure video platform. We can discuss what feels most comfortable and accessible for you.
