Life can feel overwhelming at times. You might find yourself stuck in patterns that don’t make sense: feeling anxious, low, or disconnected, but unsure why.

Many of our emotional habits were shaped early in life, often without us realising. These patterns can affect how we feel about ourselves, how we relate to others, and how we cope with stress or change. For example, someone who feels anxious in relationships may be reacting to early fears of being left or not feeling safe. Someone who struggles with low mood or self-worth might be carrying old feelings of disappointment or not being good enough, feelings that were never fully understood or expressed.

Some behaviours, such as self-harm or addiction, are often ways of coping with emotional pain that feels too big or too hard to express. Psychodynamic counselling doesn’t just focus on stopping the behaviour. It helps you understand what the behaviour might be saying: perhaps sadness, anger, or a need for comfort. From there, we work together to find safer, kinder ways to care for yourself and feel more in control.

Psychodynamic counselling can help with a wide range of emotional difficulties, including:

  • Low mood or depression

  • Anxiety or constant worrying

  • Relationship struggles or fear of closeness

  • Low self-esteem or feeling “not good enough”

  • Grief and loss

  • Feeling stuck or overwhelmed

  • Anger that feels hard to control or understand

  • Self-harm or addictive behaviours

  • Difficulty coping with change

  • A sense of emptiness or confusion about identity.

In counselling, we gently explore the hidden layers beneath these experiences. As you begin to see where certain feelings come from, you can start to respond to them differently. This process can lead to greater self-awareness and emotional relief.

I offer counselling in both English and Russian.

Adults

Children often struggle to talk about their feelings directly. They might act out, become quiet, or seem overwhelmed, not because they are being “difficult,” but because something inside feels confusing or too big to manage. Psychodynamic counselling provides a safe space for them to express their feelings through play, drawing, stories, or conversation, depending on their age.

For younger children, play is the main way they show what is going on. They might use toys, games, or drawings to act out worries, fears, or family situations. For older children, gentle conversation and storytelling help them explore emotions and relationships. As a counsellor, I listen carefully and respond with warmth and curiosity, allowing the child to feel understood and less alone.

Over time, this process helps children feel calmer, more confident, and better able to cope with everyday life. It’s not about giving advice or fixing problems quickly; it’s about helping the child make sense of their inner world so they can grow emotionally stronger.

Psychodynamic counselling can support children with a wide range of emotional and behavioural challenges, including:

⦁ Anxiety or constant worrying

⦁ Anger or aggressive behaviour

⦁ Low self-esteem or feeling “not good enough”

⦁ Withdrawing from others or struggling to make friends

⦁ Sadness or frequent tearfulness

⦁ Difficulty coping with changes at home, such as divorce or loss

⦁ Sleep problems or nightmares

⦁ Trouble concentrating or learning

⦁ Fear of being apart from parents or carers

⦁ Unexplained physical complaints, like tummy aches or headaches

These difficulties often reflect deeper emotional struggles that children can’t easily explain. Psychodynamic counselling helps uncover what is beneath the surface, offering relief and helping children feel more secure in themselves and their relationships

Adolescents

Adolescents often find themselves caught between childhood and adulthood, trying to make sense of who they are, where they belong, and how to manage powerful feelings.

Psychodynamic counselling can help with a wide range of difficulties, including:

⦁ Low mood or anxiety

⦁ Struggles with identity or self-esteem

⦁ Family conflict or parental separation

⦁ Friendship or relationship issues

⦁ Self-harm or risky behaviours

⦁ Grief, loss, or trauma

⦁ School-related stress or pressure.

Adolescents often express their inner struggles through mood swings, withdrawal, anger, or acting out. These behaviours can be confusing or worrying for parents and teachers, but they often carry deeper emotional meanings. Psychodynamic counselling helps young people put words to feelings they may not fully understand, offering relief and greater self-awareness.

Reflective Sessions for Parents - Understanding Your Child’s Emotional World

Children and teenagers often show us how they feel through behaviour, sometimes in ways that seem confusing, challenging, or hard to reach. These sessions offer a quiet space for parents to pause and reflect.

Together, we explore how behaviour might be a message: a way your child is expressing something they can’t yet say. Whether your child is full of feeling or a teenager navigating significant changes, psychodynamic counselling helps you listen beneath the surface.

This isn’t about blame or quick fixes. It’s about seeing your child more clearly, noticing emotional patterns, and responding with greater warmth and understanding. These sessions support you in building trust, emotional safety, and a deeper connection, so your child feels truly seen.
